We took a 2 1/2 hour ferry boat ride to the Outer Banks. Our first stop; the light house.
You can see where the original wooden stairs went up along the brick wall. Now the metal stairs go straight up the middle.
The large metal container was used to haul the lamp oil up to the top of the light house....by HAND! It's about 4ft tall.
The national park service now maintains the park and the ranger lives in the light keepers house. Nice huh?
